Please "Contact Us" to get involved with the January 27th Action!

Groundbreaking Action/Reception Friday, January 27!

January 9, 2012

4pm-4:30pm Alternative Groundbreaking Ceremony at Harper Court — Harper Ave between 52nd and 53rd
This action will bring together student, community, and labor groups to enact an alternative vision of community development and to debate the impact this development will make on the community, including the quality of jobs created, the role of the University, and the use of public space.  We will stage our own ceremony at the site of the Official Harper Court Groundbreaking Ceremony, featuring political theater, student and community leaders, and audience participation.

4:45pm-7pm Groundbuilding Reception at Southside Hub of Production (SHoP) — 5638 S Woodlawn Ave
Immediately following the Groundbreaking Action, participants will meet to SHoP to host a public reception, featuring footage of the action and community conversation.  The reception will provide an opportunity to make new connections, build relationships, and facilitate sharing of information and continued collaboration.  It will also be a social space to meet each other, break bread, and enjoy our coming together.

The Groundbreaking-Groundbuilding will kickoff a series of Action/Receptions, inviting different groups and campaigns to take the spotlight.  By building long-term conversations, we hope to create new mechanisms and partnerships the community can use to hold the university accountable for its use of shared space and resources.
